Ship "Index".

20). Submarines. - ( Conventionally Powered ).

This section now only shows images of "Conventionally Powered" submarines, and covers the whole of the RN's involvement with this type
from the early 1900's "Hollands" up to and including the 1990's "Upholder" class.
This excellent class was meant to replace the highly successful "Oberon" class or "O" boats, but, due again to ever increasing defence cuts,
they were never put into RN service, and have all now been sold off to Canada.

Many of the "WW11 boats" shown in this section were heavily modified during the late 1940's and early 1950's
using the information garnered from captured German "Type XX1's".
Those submarines were so far ahead of their time that the RN's, by then massive, "ASW & Escort fleet"
would have been rendered all but obsolete, if they had come into active service.

The war may not have been lost because of the "Type XX1's, but it would possibly not have ended when it did in 1945.
It may well have carried on for another year or so, and left us with the Soviet Armies facing us on the "Channel Coast" of France.

There is a growing suggestion now being put forward, although it probably won't be taken seriously,
now that we have a "Tory Government" along with their "Austerity cuts" again,
and this time with no "Liberal Party Millstone" around their necks to hold them back, after the 2015 General Election surprise.
that a proper review and a serious look is taken at the excellent German designed "Type 212A" conventional submarine.
It could either be bought direct from them, or built under licence in U.K. yards.

In order not to create to much confusion in the list of R.N. boats found below,
I shall put a "link" to a new page I have created to show one of these boats below this line.

Several of my sites visitors have, in the past, encouraged me to "Link" to the "Barrow-in-Furness Branch of the Submariners Association" website.
It has altered radically from when this link was first created.
Now, because their site has grown so much, this link will take you to an "Index" of many
articles covering all aspects of Submarines and their peculiarities.
to find it, and I am sure you will find it worth the effort !.
